On Saturday 19 July 2014 at Gayton Social Club we held the Summer Event 2014. What a brilliant turnout, huge crowds enjoying a scorching hot day and listening to live music provided by local bands and singers, Best Served Chilled, Lauren Isbel, 2Bit Operators, Lewis Murphy, My Cocoon and Harry Seaton. The bands and singers were all fantastic and kept everyone entertained and gave their time for free. We raised a fantastic amount of £1767.00 for our chosen charity Red Wellies www.redwellies.info this included £348.00 raised by Lewis Petch a club member who bravely agreed to have his head shaved on the night.
This year we had a ‘Battle of Britain’ fly past a Hurricane and Spitfire led by Wing Commander Justin Heliwell from RAF Coningsby it was brilliant, highlight of the day, a big thanks to Jimmy Valentine for organising it. We also had a raffle 1st prize – £250, 2nd prize – Kindle Fire HD, 3rd prize – TV 24” Flat Screen and lots of other prizes. The day was a success with the help of PJ Eggleton for doing tattoos & nails, Lois Chilvers for her face painting, Paul & Wendy Wightman for the numerous lucky numbers prizes and Loom Band stall. ‘Jane’s Snacks’ for providing excellent food. Also with the support of 12th Scout Group who supplied the marquee, Rudd Marquee who loaned us the tables and chairs.
We would also like to thank Mervyn Wiles (Treasurer of Red Wellies) for coming and helping in raising awareness of a charity dedicated to raising funds for the continuing research of Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Last but not least all the businesses who so generously donated the many raffle prizes.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and supported the event and for everyone involved in making this annual event another huge success.
